WHY WE GIVE

"Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38).

"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver" (II Corinthians 9:7).

At The River we believe the essence of living is found in giving. The nature of God and of His Son, Jesus, is one that is marked by extravagant giving. As our relationship with Christ deepens, one of the expressions of His nature in us will be a growing desire to give. Both tithing and giving are biblical expressions of worship and are therefore encouraged and celebrated in our services.

WHAT IS TITHES?

The tithe = 10% of your income.

Tithing shows honor and respect to God in your obedience to Him. By tithing, you prove God’s faithfulness by trusting in His promises.

Leviticus 27:30 “A tithe of everything belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.” Tithing is not simply an Old Testament law, it is a biblical principal.

Proverbs 3:9 "We are exhorted to bring the 'first fruits of all your crops' by tithing, we recognize God as our source, for He is the one who gives us the power to obtain wealth."

GIVING CHEERFULLY

Our giving should always be done with a cheerful attitude; the scriptures indicate that God loves a cheerful giver. Therefore as we give, whether it’s our time, our talents, our finances or simply a word of encouragement, it should be done with a joyful heart and not out of obligation. The Bible clearly teaches the principle of sowing and reaping. When we give, we are sowing seed (tithes and offerings) to reap a harvest (in souls, favor and blessings). Our giving at The River is not a debt we owe; it’s a seed we sow! Always remember to keep your eyes on the “seed” and not on the “need”. God is faithful.
